Port Strike Delays Access to Health Foodies’ Basics.
Health, Gurus, Fitness Fanatics, and Crunchy Mamas are you all paying attention to the October 2024 Port Strike and thinking about its potential impact? I came up with a list of things I consume on the regular that could potentially get held up due to the port strike.
Coconuts Anything & Everything (The Philippines is the largest producer for Americans consumption of coconut oil, milk, and water.)
Apples (Argentina and Chile really close the gap for out of season apples. It is still technically apple harvesting time in some areas locally. Perhaps local grocers will finally support and secure contracts from USA apple orchards.)
Avocados! (We could still get them via trucks on the southern border.)
Certain brands of grass-fed butter.
Salt varietes
Dates (The whole fruit, date sugar, production of several shelf stable items with dates as the main sweetner.)
Beef (Sadly most beef originates from other countries such as Argentia.)
Olives, Pineapples, Bananas… The list goes on…
These are just a few of the main staples. Fruits in general are largely imported into the USA. Plenty of vegetables are grown in the USA. I hope this list prepares you. Hopefully the industry will come to an agreement soon and pay the workers what they need to make a livable wage in this costly economy.
P.S. Stop hoarding toilet paper like its the 2020 pandemic; that stuff is made in the USA papermills!
Be safe, healthy, and happy,
Eritrea
